Those of us who are intimately involved with this program understand what a college education can do for an individual. We urge you to take a moment to reflect on the impact your college years meant to you. Hopefully, they were great ones and prepared you for going out into the world. I think you’ll agree that the idea of spending four years in college is a great invention. You move past the last vestiges of childhood, learn how to survive on your own, meet new people from different places, suffer setbacks and enjoy your successes. You were taught by learned people and leave your academic life better prepared to meet the challenges that the future holds. For most of us this experience is passed on down the line to our children and grandchildren.
For the majority of our students they will be the first in their family to attend a four-year college or university. Our current students have been chosen for their intellect, ambition and, just as important, their maturity. We have every confidence they will survive and thrive in college as well as later in life. We expect them to pass along to future generations what they have learned and what happened to them as a result of going to a really great college. It would not surprise us to see many of our students giving back to their communities, wherever they land after graduation.
